Have you ever been invited to go to church?
Typically, if you are invited to attend church, you would be expected to show up at a specific address, at a certain time, and enter the church building where you would experience several acts of ritual – IE standing up at times, repeating traditional creeds, possibly singing hymns, etc. Someone would probably read Scripture and someone would probably share a message. These practices are very common in mainline churches.
The Outdoor Ministry asked the question, “How did Jesus do ministry?” During his 3-year ministry on earth as a man, Jesus demonstrated how we should live and worship. He simply walked down by the river or the lake, stood near, climbed into a boat, or walked up on the hillside and sat down next to people and said, “Let me tell you about my Father and me. Let me teach you about the coming kingdom. Let me show you how all of God’s Word is truth. And let me teach you what our desires are for your life.” Jesus said he wanted us to know God and how to have life abundantly here on earth.
The Outdoor Ministry is not inviting you to come to “church.” We are simply inviting you to go on several small adventures that can add up to a life-long journey with God where existing friendships grow stronger and new friendships are forged. These adventures might include:
A Hiking Trip
A Canoe/Kayak Trip
Camping
Fishing
Crafts
Games
Family Activities
These fun activities will include a time of prayer, an applicable Bible lesson, and possibly a snack or meal to share. Enjoyment, laughter and relaxation, in God’s creation, creates the perfect platform for learning what Jesus taught.
In Genesis, we read the God created the world and everything in it in five days. He, himself, declared that it was very good. It only lacked one thing. God wanted someone to share a love-relationship with. On the sixth day, He created mankind – people made in His image for that purpose. And then He gave us the gift of choice so we have the ability to decide if we want to experience a perfect love relationship with Him. The Outdoor Ministry desires for you to know God and enrich your relationship with Him. We invite you to journey with us to experience fullness in God’s plan for your life.
Going to church is a great idea, but going on a journey with God is even better!
